The Foundation

DigestScience was founded by Professor Pierre Desreumaux (an eminent specialist in digestive tract diseases) with funding from two companies highly committed to dietary innovation.

Professor Pierre Desreumaux

As a physician and researcher at Lille University Medical Centre, Professor Pierre Desreumaux is an international specialist in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

He is Director of the INSERM U795 research unit and was awarded the 2005 INSERM Research Prize in recognition of this work. He is also a founder of the "Intestinfo" IBD care network and a founder and Director of the IBD Research Centre in Lille, France.

The Lesaffre Group

 The Lesaffre Group was founded over 150 years ago and is the world leader in the production of yeasts and yeast extracts for the agrifood, biotech and human, animal & plant health sectors.

The group employs over 6,000 people worldwide.

Thirty-five production sites are located in 23 different countries and the Group has a comprehensive global sales network. The company is highly committed to nutritional health research programmes and so very naturally fitted into the launch of DigestScience.

With a broad range of high-quality products, Roquette is France's leading producer of starch products and the global number one for polyols.

At Roquette, nutritional research has been a major priority for a long while. The company's in-house researchers collaborate actively with academic institutes, universities and medical centres and publish their results in learned journals and at scientific conferences.

Through its commitment to DigestScience, Roquette is seeking to provide clinical research with new resources and intends to participate in very ambitious research programmes on human nutrition.
