Our events
Besides its initial role of financing partner, DigestScience has another mission of stimulation and promotion of medical research near companies, medical profession and general public.
To this end DigestScience organizes many events of international scale directed towards progress in scientific research and their effects on patients' quality of life: workshops, congresses…
Digestive tract diseases remain ignored from the general public. DigestScience purpose is also to make these pathologies better known and recognized, to better assert the patient's rights and to improve their status in our society. The foundation thus organizes its own events such as the Testathlon, concerts, etc … but also takes part in existing events.
The Paris-Roubaix Tournament
On April 9,
2011, our latest sporting team participated in the Paris-Roubaix Tournament, a
cycling event of 138 km which started in
Saint Quentin and ended at the Carrefour
de l’Arbre: 15 cobblestone sectors!
Just like the professionals on the following day, our courageous
amateurs met the challenge: a
cobblestone hell !
Two amateur legs of the Tour de France

d’Huez: a double climb, first of the
Telegraphe, and then the Col de Galibier.
The DigestScience team will be starting off on this leg !
July 17 2011: Issoire/Saint Flour: Throughout the entire duration of this very difficult course, lasting 208 km, the DigestScience team will discover the magnificent landscapes of the Puy de Döme, the Haute-Loire, and also those of the Cantal.
Why does DigestScience
have a sports team ?
- Because the values of effort and solidarity are important to athletes and all those who struggle against disease in their everyday life.
- Because physical activity is rich in beneficial efforts for persons with digestive diseases.
- Finally, because these sports events take place in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
A broad and ambitious goal
- to inform the public and make it aware of digestive diseases, and to promote the beneficial effects of sports and physical exercise.
- to give hope to persons with digestive diseases.
- to contribute to these goals in a festive atmosphere.
- to collect funds for the DigestScience Foundation and thus aid research !
Marathon: the Route du Louvre
May
15, 2011 : For the third consecutive year, and from the
same departure point, the
DigestScience Foundation gathered
together physicians, research
scientists, patients, healthy persons, the young, the less young, athletes and
the less athletic, to form a chain of caregiving and life…
For the 2011 edition of the Route du Louvre, the banner of DigestScience consisted of the following:
48 persons, divided into 8 teams of six persons each, who ran the entire course in the form of a relay race of 5 to 9 km;
-14 marathon runners who ran the entire 42 km
Among these athletes were patients with celiac disease representing the French Association for Persons Intolerant to Gluten (AFDIAG) and patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD: Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), one of whom wears a stoma.
Via their participation, these athletes bore witness to their fight against the disease, and also raised the highly taboo subject of the stoma. And let us not forget the physicians, research scientists, businessmen and courageous persons who came to support research!
