Irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is a very widespread, non-malignant disease that affects one person in five at some point in their life. Even though today's medicine is capable of treating the symptoms of the disease, it is powerless to determine the cause and cure the condition definitively.

The patients

Irritable bowel syndrome is the most widespread digestive tract disease. It affects one person in five.

The symptoms

The symptoms vary greatly from one patient to another.

The disease's most frequent manifestations are as follows:

  • chronic abdominal pain
  • bloating
  • constipation and diarrhoea
  • Anorexie, nausées, régurgitations

Even though irritable bowel syndrome is not a serious disease, it often significantly worsens the patient's quality of life.

The treatments

Irritable bowel syndrome is poorly known and under-diagnosed, and there is no definitive treatment. Only its symptoms can be treated, in order to reduce the patient's pain levels and increase quality of life.
